Simple Thoughts For A Complicated Man... Man vs. God
I'll start by using the words of Henry David Thoreau: "With all your science, tell me how is it that light comes into the soul?"

There is no debate that science has made quantum leaps in new discoveries and breakthroughs within the last 20 years. You can simply look at video games and compare Nintendo to the XBox360. Its astonishing how far we've come in entertainment, but what about real science? What about the studies that saves lives? Is it a slap in the face to a higher being? Although scientists have trouble outright admitting it, there is a power that they are at odds against. Even Einstein could not deny that there was something else. He believed that the consequences of his own theory of relativity would bring us to an encounter with god. Through his conclusion, he reluctantly stated “the necessity for a beginning and the presence of a superior reasoning power.”
Since the beginning of time there have been stories told of humans searching for the tree of life, or the fountain of youth, with an objective to live forever. What’s the difference in what we are doing now? Through science we look for new ways to stay young and live longer. They may not be viewed in such a way, but what do you think botox injections are for? They won’t help you live longer, however it is a superficial remedy to make Park Ave. wives feel younger. What about stem cell research though? It is highly controversial, yet seems to be the key to our fountain of youth. Research studies with stem cells have expected results varying from regenerative limbs to curing cancer cells and prolonging life. Scientists are even using methods to successfully keep frozen cells alive for a record breaking 43 years.
Still not convinced that science is in an eternal power struggle with god? Let’s look at modern methods of open heart surgery. Not only do the surgeons put you to sleep, but they actually kill you. They stop the beat of your heart and remove all the blood in your body. Basically, they embalm you while you are still being kept alive through machines. Here we are laying our lives, literally, in the hands of another man. An even better example of this is the construction of the Large Hadron Collider. The Large Hadron Collider is a giant machine that has been built to recreate a smaller “big bang”. Scientists are so concerned with knowing everything about everything that can ever be known in the entire universe, that they are going to try to recreate the explosion that created the known universe within a room and are fairly certain they can do this successfully… they just aren’t sure of a hypothesis. There was a scientist by the name of Arthur Eddington who studied Einstein's theory of relativity who stated that "we must allow evolution an infinite amount of time to get started." The idea that we are going to try to recreate something that could have possibly taken lifetimes to happen, within a few years is asinine! Some of scientist's most brilliant minds have stated that we know how certain things like the conception of a human baby and the big bang happen, but why is still a mystery.
From cloning to stem cell research, and from the Large Hadron Collider to open heart surgery, our existence is a constant Oedipal fight with a higher power. I understand the need for scientific and technological advancement, but where do we draw the line? Are we willing to destroy everything we have for the sake of knowing? We, as humans, who DON’T know everything have to at least consider the fact that we are not supposed to know everything, if we are going to decline the acknowledgment of a higher power. If there is one person out there that can explain which came first the chicken or the egg and with an undisputed answer, you will be named the master of the universe and I will bow to you as my god!
