Adventures in Book-Writing: Part I...

Is it true that Vin's writing a book? Click here to find out.

If J.R.R. Tolkien can do it...

Vin, Why have you not been posting things on a more consistant basis? Well, voice in my head, the answer is that I'm busy writing a book. *voice in head laughs* No, seriously. *voice in head laughs again* I'm not kidding! *kills voice in head with copious amounts of alcohol and Nyquil*

The book will be a collection of essays about various topics. It will be written with much greater attention to grammer and article length than the blog posts have been subject to. The working title as of right now is:

My Brain Is Working Overtime:
A collection of essays about stuff you'll read because it's in a book.

So far I have 12 full pages written and I've been writing those since early November. I also have tons of outlines and treatments in cue that need to be worked on and fleshed out.

Here are a couple of random exerps from a few essays that probably won't make sense because they are out of context:

From "When You're Done With The Candels, Try My Brain"

"Who, over the age of ten, celebrates a birthday anymore? I thought that once you got older, the reason you stopped having birthdays was because you started to realize that all a birthday brings you is just a big, fat reminder that you are a year closer to death; so you forego the drama of this realization and just call off the birthday. No reminder of your inevitable demise, no problem. Essentially, it’s bliss by denial (at its finest, I might add).

It’s such a big to-do. Taking a day out of your life to celebrate a day in your life. It’s kind-of pathetic when you think about it; essentially making up an excuse to drop your narcissism into every sentence you say to your co-workers within a 24 hour period.

Bob: Hey Jim!

Jim: Yes, Bob?

Bob: Ahem, guess whose birthday it is today!

Jim: Let me guess, yours?

Bob: Correctamundo!

Jim: Go fuck yourself.

Jim is right in telling Bob to go fuck himself. You see, Bob is a prime example of why birthdays are a bad idea. They give people a certain level of unwanted pretentiousness; as if being a day older than yesterday was something to take pride over..."

From "Can I Has Answers"
The Truth Is Out There Pictures, Images and Photos

"It’s just like trying to ask if there’s a God. You’ll come up with a reasonably well-thought out and convoluted answer, then you will slowly realize that your answer doesn’t make any sense and you’ll tussle around with other options. Then you’ll just say “fuck it” and take the side of believing in God because you’ve got nothing else. Then you will promptly drop your hand into a bag of Funyons and go back to watching Family Guy because you also have low standards and a brain that mistakes pop-culture references for comedy..."

I hope to write more original content for the site soon and will periodically post updates on how the book is going. Writing it isn't really the hard part. The hard part will be figuring out a way to self-publish this with the help of DAPS.
